We’re excited to introduce the very first cake to come out of the Tech Cakes bakeries, the Google Chrome Cake. In honor of Google’s great web browser and upcoming Google Chrome Operating System, we took to the kitchen to produce this great cake. Enjoy.
Background info:
Since this was the first cake we’ve baked, there was quite a learning curve to overcome. Thankfully we found some great recipes that made this cake easy to work with. The base cake is a “Black Magic Cake” recipe from All Recipes, covered in a buttercream frosting. That is all topped by a white “Rolled Buttercream” fondant also from All Recipes. After the white fondant, we finished it off with colored fondant made by adding food coloring to the original recipe.
Here are some photos from the baking process:

The fondant recipe we used was pretty easy to work with, and used the least amount of “rare” ingredients that you wouldn’t normally have in the pantry.
We colored the fondant with normal food coloring. The red took the most to reach the color we were looking for.

The “eye” after application. The other parts of the cake were a bit trickier, as they required measuring to get the correct angles and distances, but nothing too complex. The fondant was much easier to work with cold though, so we ended up applying the colors in three phases because they got too sticky to work with after setting out even after ten minutes. If you add more powdered sugar to the fondant this problem should go away.
We know it’s not perfect, but for our first try it was a great experience and we hope you like the results. If you like what we’re doing please subscribe to updates or follow us on twitter!
